Ed Gifford (1927-1998) was born and lived most of his life in and around Akron, Ohio. Gifford was known for his strong, simple statements of nostalgic Americana scenes, particularly of Amish Country in Northeastern Ohio. Gifford painted or etched in an Impressionistic/realistic style. His mother, Mrs. Eva Dettling Gifford, was a well-known area artist and passed on many of her attributes to her son. Gifford was a member of the American Artists Professional League and the WPA (Whiskey Painters of America) society. His works are represented in both private and corporate art collections around the world
